This privacy policy describes how BibliCal ("we", "our", or "the app") handles your data. BibliCal is a moon-sighting-based Biblical calendar application for Android devices. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.

Data Collection and Usage

1. Location Data

Location data is collected ONLY for calculating local sunset times.

  • The app requests location permissions (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION and ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION)
  • Location data is used exclusively to calculate local sunset times, which determine when Biblical days begin (Biblical days start at sunset)
  • Location data is stored locally on your device using Android DataStore
  • Location data is cached for up to 24 hours to improve widget performance
  • Location data is NEVER transmitted off your device
  • Location data is NEVER shared with third parties
  • If you deny location permissions, the app will use default coordinates (latitude 40.0, longitude -74.0) as a fallback

2. Calendar Data (Optional)

  • The app requests calendar permissions (READ_CALENDAR and WRITE_CALENDAR) ONLY if you explicitly enable the calendar export feature in Settings
  • If enabled, the app writes Biblical month starts and feast days to a calendar you select on your device
  • The app does NOT read existing calendar events
  • Calendar data remains on your device and is NEVER transmitted

3. App Data Storage

The app stores the following data locally on your device:

  • Biblical month start dates (stored using Room database)
  • Year decisions (whether a year has 12 or 13 months, stored using Room database)
  • User preferences and settings (notification preferences, month naming mode, etc., stored using Android DataStore)
  • Cached location coordinates (as described above)
  • All data is stored locally using Android's Room database and DataStore
  • No data is transmitted to external servers
  • No data is backed up to cloud services by the app (you may have device-level backups enabled, which is outside our control)

No Data Collection

BibliCal does NOT collect or transmit:

  • Analytics data
  • Third-party analytics services
  • Advertising services
  • Crash reports
  • User behavior data
  • Any data to external servers

The app works completely offline and does not require an internet connection. All functionality is available without network access.

Permissions

The app requests the following permissions:

  • POST_NOTIFICATIONS: For displaying Biblical date notifications (optional, you can disable this in settings)
  • RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: To reschedule notifications after device restart
  • WAKE_LOCK: To ensure notifications are delivered on time
  • Location permissions: As described above (for sunset calculations)
  • Calendar permissions: As described above (optional, only if calendar export is enabled)

Data Security

  • All data is stored locally on your device
  • No encryption is required as no sensitive data is transmitted
  • You can uninstall the app at any time, which will delete all locally stored data

Your Rights

You have full control over your data:

  • You can revoke location permissions at any time through Android settings
  • You can revoke calendar permissions at any time through Android settings
  • You can disable notifications through app settings
  • You can delete all app data by uninstalling the app
